Halloween has come and gone.
In some ways, it seemed like we blinked, and it was over. In other ways, it seemed like most of America had moved on by October 15th.
I guess you'd have to expect some seasonal burnout, right? Halloween items appear in stores by August, and the television networks begin airing specials in September. Even our beloved Disney World (and its slew of YouTubers) start the nightly Halloween party while it's still technically summer.
Heck, the Home Depot by me had tossed the Halloween decorations into the "clearance" section and put the Christmas trees on display on October 1st!
Now that The Hallmark Channel has begun their Christmas movie marathon (before Halloween, btw), it'll be a struggle to not watch our favorites until after Thanksgiving, so we don't feel like we're rushing the next season.
To me, it's time we all slowed down a bit. October is for Halloween. November is for Thanksgiving. December is for Christmas.
This Halloween was likely the nicest we ever had since moving into our house almost a decade ago. It was a lovely sunny day, and the 100 or so neighborhood kids all arrived at our door before the sun had even set. After, we had a nice quiet evening and reflected on watching our daughter run around like a nut in her adorable little lamb costume.
While I know some of us nostalgia nerds may be sad that Halloween is over, I think we can say 2021 was a pretty darn good one. We had some great new stuff, ranging from the Monster Mash cereal to Elvira's return to television on Chiller. We enjoyed searching the stores for those special edition items, and while it may seem that we have to wait a whole nother year for that kind of fun again, in actuality, we're just kicking off the 2021 holiday season!
If you run to Walmart, you might catch those cartoon turkey plates and napkins while searching for the special Thanksgiving or Christmas edition candy, sodas, and other snacks! I'm also excited for the many holiday specials on TV, and of course, seeing things like that M&Ms meet Santa Claus commercial for the 25th year in a row.
I also wanted to say thank you. There has been an influx of new readers, comments, and emails that I attribute to the Halloween season. For the new readers, I hope you like what you read and stick around. For the long-time readers, I appreciate and thank you for continuing to return to see what's next.
I genuinely enjoy the research that I do for some articles, and I most definitely enjoy reflecting on the past for every piece I post. I hope you get as much enjoyment as I do from everything here at YesterYear and hopefully learn something new or remember something you once knew but long forgot!

So, what's coming up at YesterYear? After Halloween, part of me wants to say that it's time to take a break and regroup for the Christmas rush... but that's probably not going to happen. I've got an ambitious schedule planned. I don't want to promise anything in case I can't get it all out together, but I've got a list of stuff I'm excited to post.
I'm looking forward to finishing our second Really Retro Movie Review. I'll give you a hint: it's got planes, trains, and automobiles, but it is not the Steve Martin and John Candy classic. It's more of a thriller from the 50s and one of my favorite movies ever. See if you can guess before it drops, as the kids say.
There are also some things on the docket like another Restaurant of YesterYear, the holidays on Roseanne, a few personal memories, and of course, some Thanksgiving and Christmas fun!
Plus, RePosts from previous years will fill your downtime or maybe see something new that you may have missed.
