Retro RePost: The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour

Kicking off the annual summertime Friday reposts of some of my older writing is my favorite television program of all time: I Love Lucy.

Sort of.

Back in 2020, I shared this deep dive into The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.  Most people today have never heard of it, and that's ok, because more often than not, they were broken up into half-hour episodes and aired in syndication alongside I Love Lucy.  Most people just think of them as the "final season" of I Love Lucy, and I guess, in a way, they are right, but these wonderful one-hour specials just sort of pick up where I Love Lucy left off.

Today, I'm reposting this because, to me, watching Lucy and Ricky never gets old.  I still catch I Love Lucy episodes all the time on Pluto TV (both at home and during layovers at work).  Traveling like I do, flipping on classic episodes of I Love Lucy in a hotel room after a long day is the perfect way to unwind and feel at home, no matter how many miles separate me and my family.

Some of my favorite memories, though, are the summer nights in the 90s watching Nick at Nite's Block Party Summer.   Dad and I would howl with laughter during those "Lucy Tuesdays" and "Whole Lotta Lucy" marathons, so loud that Granny would hear us from next door.  She'd always ask the next morning what had been so funny.

Those were great times that still make me smile.

If you're a fellow Lucy fan (or even if you're not), dive into this one and enjoy the laughs all over again!   Read the full article (The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour) here!
